Biography

     Art Sherwyn, now in his twenty ninth year of teaching and making art, has become one of the more prolific and prominent combinations of teacher/artist presently on the scene.

     He currently teaches Art at Stockdale HS in Bakersfield, California and also teaches classes for the University of the Pacific Teacher Education Extension Program. In 1995-96 he received the prestigious American Disney Teacher Award. He was awarded the California HS Art Educator of the Year in 1997-98 and the National Art Education Art Educator of the Year Award for the Pacific Region in 1999-2000. He also runs art retreats at a variety of outdoor locations and is a sought after lecturer, demonstrator, and motivational speaker, having performed numerous presentations over the past fifteen years to a wide range of audiences from art educators, artists, leadership workshops and conventions, and his art has hung in many galleries, exhibits, private collections, and museums, and has won numerous awards. He is a well known Plein Air artist, having painted on countless locations throughout the Western Region of the United States. In his studio he creates contemporary works of art, exploring a wide range of abstract techniques, processes and theories.

     Art is presently working on several writing projects for Davis Publications in Worcester, Mass. His first Book, "Creative Coloring - Design Elements" is being used in classrooms throughout the U.S. His second book, "The Drawing Workbook - Line" is now officially on the market as well.
