Abstract Works

Artists paint emotion, not information. If they painted everything the same way, it would mean they felt the same about everything. This is what lures and motivates me into creating works of art that are uncommon. (Scroll down for more writing on abstract art.)

Picasso once said, The hardest part about being an abstract artist is to not copy yourself. I find it an extraordinary challenge to spend time creating works of art that are unique and uncommon, walking down the uncommon path, without any preconceived ideas or visions, making decisions along the way, and hopefully knowing what to add and when to stop. I especially like to work with mixed medium and collage. I prefer acrylic paint as a foundation, sometimes bringing in spray paint, oil stick or pastels. I only buy the primary colors; yellow, red and blue, along with white, black and paynes gray. It is an easy way for me to keep the work unified. I opt to build textured surfaces and several layers of paint before I start constructing the composition. Anything and everything is fair game; from spraying paint through a wide range of building materials such as barbed wire, various grates, strawberry baskets, etc. to painting with objects such as bicycle tires, tennis balls and toilet plungers. I look forward to posting new works as I finish them. Please inquire if you are interested in more information concerning technique or acquisition.
